BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) — China on Monday released a nationwide action plan to promote green consumption, part of the country's broader efforts to accelerate the transition to green consumption and support high-quality development.
The plan, jointly developed by the Ministry of Commerce and eight other government departments, outlines 20 policy measures in seven key areas aimed at strengthening incentives for green consumption. These measures cover sectors such as agricultural products, household appliances, and housing services. The document also details financial and other support measures aimed at improving the conditions for green consumption.
According to a notice posted on the official website of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the initiative aims to expand eco-friendly consumption practices and accelerate the transition to green and low-carbon production and lifestyles.
The plan prioritises improving the quality of supply in key livelihood sectors, which requires increasing the availability of organic agricultural products and wider adoption of energy-efficient household appliances.
The document also emphasizes the need to promote more environmentally friendly vehicle consumption by incentivizing the purchase of new energy vehicles and strengthening the automotive industry value chain, as well as encouraging innovative consumption scenarios, including caravanning, mobile cinemas and caravanning.
The plan also aims to increase the consumption of green services by promoting them in sectors such as catering, hospitality and household services.
To implement new green consumption models, the plan calls for the creation of environmentally friendly supply chains and carbon footprint assessments. Furthermore, the document encourages the development of eco-friendly leasing services, along with the wider adoption of shared mobility, the use of shared spaces, and shared goods to achieve more efficient resource use.
The plan also emphasizes the importance of deeper integration of artificial intelligence with green consumption, thereby supporting the development of smart products and their application scenarios. -0-
