CARACAS, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) — The National Bolivarian Armed Forces on Sunday strongly condemned the "cowardly kidnapping" of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the United States.
In a statement read on national radio and television, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez also condemned the “cold-blooded” killing by the US military of a significant part of N. Maduro’s security detail – soldiers and innocent civilians.
The Venezuelan Armed Forces expressed their full support for the state of emergency declared by the government following the US strikes on several targets in the country.
The minister said the armed forces had activated the "Full Combat Readiness Plan throughout the country with full coordination of civilian, military and police personnel."
The plan aims to "integrate elements of national power into the mission of countering imperial aggression, forming a unified fighting force to ensure the freedom, independence and sovereignty of the nation," the military said.
