BEIJING, January 4 (Xinhua) — Beijing welcomed 8.808 million tourists during the Chinese New Year holiday, bringing the city's total tourism revenue to 10.97 billion yuan (about 1.56 billion U.S. dollars), according to the city's Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

This year, the New Year holidays lasted from January 1st to 3rd. During the holiday period, the Chinese capital hosted a diverse and comprehensive cultural and tourism event.

Regarding the performing arts sector, according to the department, 275 commercial performances were held in Beijing during the reporting period, attracting more than 200,000 spectators and generating box office revenue of over 76 million yuan.

During the holiday season, the aforementioned department selected more than 70 key events and published a map of cultural and tourist events to celebrate the New Year, thus offering residents and visitors of the city a comprehensive guide to the festive events.

Additionally, 30 themed tourist routes were launched, offering visitors new ways to explore the city in winter. Cultural institutions at various levels throughout Beijing, including cultural centers and libraries, organized 395 cultural events, attended by over 340,000 people.

According to the Beijing Bureau of Commerce, during the New Year holiday, the combined sales of key enterprises in Beijing monitored by the city government, such as department stores, supermarkets, specialty retailers, catering establishments and e-commerce platforms, amounted to 4.04 billion yuan. -0-
