BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) — During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), the total length of railways in operation across China increased by 12.8 percent from 146,300 km to 165,000 km, the China State Railway Corporation (CSRC) said Sunday.
According to the data, during the reporting period, the length of high-speed railways (HSR) operating in China increased by 32.98 percent – from 37,900 km to 50,400 km, which allowed the country to form the largest HSR network in the world.
In 2025 alone, investment in fixed assets in the country's railway sector amounted to 901.5 billion yuan (approximately 128.3 billion US dollars), while 3,109 km of new railway lines were put into operation, including 2,862 km of the East Siberian Railway.
China will continue to advance railway network construction during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), the CGRC stated. The CGRC also noted that by 2030, the length of railways in operation across the country is expected to reach 180,000 km, including approximately 60,000 km of high-speed rail.
