Beijing, January 4 (Xinhua) — On Saturday, the first working day of the New Year, the number of incoming and outgoing passengers at the Raohe Port (Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China) exceeded 1,300, setting a daily record in the port's history. Russian tourists accounted for over 60 percent of the total number of incoming tourists.
The official website of the Zhongguo Xinwenshe news agency reports that, thanks to the introduction of a mutual visa-free regime between China and Russia, the Raohe checkpoint has seen an increase in both passenger and cargo traffic. On the same day, 19 trucks passed through the checkpoint, transporting 300 tons of cargo.
Raohe is the only checkpoint bordering Russia's Khabarovsk Krai across the Ussuri River and is operational year-round. When the river freezes, the shortest time required to cross the border through Raohe and the Russian Pokrovka checkpoints is just two minutes. Since the introduction of visa-free travel, passenger traffic at Raohe has increased by 30%.
A Russian tourist named Eva, who had just completed customs procedures upon entering China, said that this was her third time in China, and customs clearance at the Raohe checkpoint was very convenient.
According to Lü Zhaojian, head of the Raohe County Foreign Trade Service Center, in order to ensure the orderly passage of customs procedures, Raohe checkpoint staff agreed with the Russian side to simultaneously extend the customs clearance period by two hours and took a number of smart and convenient measures to improve the efficiency of customs clearance. -0-
