CARACAS, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) — Venezuela's Supreme Court late Saturday ordered Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to immediately assume the presidency following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro.

The ruling was read on national radio and television by Magistrate/Judge/Tania D'Amelio.

“It is ordered that citizen Delcy Eloina Rodríguez Gómez, Executive Vice President of the Republic, assume and exercise as Acting President all the powers, duties, and duties inherent in the office of President,” the Supreme Court decision stated.
