BEIJING, January 3 (Xinhua) — At the invitation of Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin will pay an official visit to China from January 4 to 8, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Saturday.

According to the Chinese diplomat, Martin's upcoming visit will be the first by an Irish Prime Minister to China in 14 years. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, hold talks with Premier Li Qiang, and meet with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. The two sides will conduct an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

In addition to Beijing, M. Martin will also visit Shanghai.

In recent years, the mutually beneficial and strategic partnership between China and Ireland has steadily developed. Both sides have always respected each other and treated each other equally. Through open cooperation, the two countries have achieved complementary strengths and common development, benefiting their peoples, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman noted.

China is ready to use this visit as an opportunity to strengthen political mutual trust and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Ireland, as well as to give new impetus to the high-quality development of the two countries in the new era, as well as the healthy and stable development of Sino-European relations, the Chinese diplomat concluded. -0-
