Kyiv, January 3 (Xinhua) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Telegram on Saturday that he is proposing to appoint Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal to the positions of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy.

V. Zelenskyy thanked D. Shmyhal for his systematic work at the Ministry of Defense and for intensifying processes necessary for the defense of Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine also expressed hope that the Verkhovna Rada will approve D. Shmyhal in his new position.

On Friday, V. Zelenskyy began making personnel changes. He nominated First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov to head the Ministry of Defense.

D. Shmyhal has served as Ukraine's Minister of Defense since July of last year. He previously headed the Ukrainian government. –0–
