BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) — Return passenger traffic peaked on Saturday, the last day of the Chinese New Year holiday, China Railways said.
The country's railways are expected to carry 17.45 million passenger journeys on Saturday, with an additional 1,343 passenger trains planned to be launched to meet travel demand.
On Saturday, popular departure cities were Guangzhou, Beijing and Chengdu, while the main destinations were Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.
More than 12 million people used rail transport in the country on Friday.
This year, the New Year's holiday in China will run from Thursday to Saturday. -0-
