OSLO, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) — The foreign ministers of Norway and Denmark on Saturday expressed concern over the U.S. military operation in Venezuela, stressing the need to uphold international law and calling for de-escalation and dialogue within the United Nations.

As Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide noted, this move by Washington raises serious legal concerns.

"The American intervention in Venezuela does not comply with international law," E.B. Eide told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, in turn, told the Danish television channel DR that the situation in Venezuela represents a serious escalation, and that he hopes for an early meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the ongoing events.

L. L. Rasmussen also emphasized the need to adhere to international law. "We must maintain respect for the international rules of the game," the Danish diplomat said. –0–
