London, January 3 (Xinhua) — Britain is "in no way involved" in the US operation in Venezuela, British media reported on Saturday, citing a statement from Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In his speech, recorded for British television channels, Starmer noted that he had not spoken with US President Donald Trump about Washington's capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
"This is obviously a rapidly changing situation and we need to establish all the facts," the British prime minister said, adding that he needed more information before making further comments.
According to K. Starmer, there are currently around 500 British citizens in Venezuela, and the government is working with the embassy to ensure their care, protection and provision of appropriate advice.
D. Trump announced on Saturday that the United States had launched strikes on Venezuela and captured its leader, N. Maduro, who was taken out of the country along with his wife.
Venezuela on Saturday condemned "military aggression" by the United States after loud explosions were heard and planes were seen flying overhead in the capital Caracas early in the day.
