Los Angeles, January 1 (Xinhua) — More than 2,000 measles cases were reported in the United States in 2025, the highest annual number since 1992, according to data released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of December 30, 2,065 cases of measles had been confirmed in the country, with approximately 11 percent of patients requiring hospitalization. According to the CDC, the disease has appeared in 44 jurisdictions in the United States. A small number of cases have been identified among international travelers.
The number of cases is the highest since 1992, when 2,126 cases of measles were confirmed in the United States.
According to CDC estimates, 49 outbreaks of infection were reported in 2025. Outbreak-related cases accounted for 88 percent of confirmed measles cases.
The largest proportion of those infected, about 42 percent, were patients aged 5 to 19 years.
