London, January 2 (Xinhua) — A total of 41,472 migrants arrived in the UK by small boat in 2025, the second-highest number ever recorded, the UK government released Thursday.
The figure is up 13 percent from 2024 and 9 percent below the all-time high of nearly 46,000 people recorded in 2022.
At least 17 people died while attempting to cross the English Channel in 2025, local media reported, citing French and British authorities.
In November, the UK Home Office announced a comprehensive review of the asylum system. Now, people granted asylum will have to wait 20 years before they can apply for permanent residence.
