Ankara, December 31 (Xinhua) — Turkey has introduced a visa-free entry regime for Chinese citizens holding regular passports and entering for tourism and transit purposes. This was announced in a decree issued by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and published in the government gazette on Wednesday.
Under the new rules, Chinese travelers will be exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This regime will take effect on January 2, 2026.
This move is aimed at strengthening trade and tourism between the two countries. The visa waiver follows a significant increase in arrivals from China, which has become one of Turkey's fastest-growing tourism markets.
According to Turkish official data, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Turkey increased by 65.1 percent year-on-year in 2024, reaching approximately 410,000. This was driven by improved air travel and growing interest in the country's cultural heritage sites.
