BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the Jiefangjun Bao (People's Liberation Army) newspaper on the occasion of its 70th founding anniversary.

Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), warmly congratulated the publication's staff on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the CMC.

In his congratulatory letter, the Chinese leader noted that over the past seven decades, the newspaper has made a significant contribution to the development of the glorious traditions of the Party and the armed forces, the education of several generations of revolutionary commanders and fighters, and the promotion of the development of the people's armed forces.

The Chinese President emphasized that the Jiefangjun Bao should adhere to its fundamental principles while striving for innovation, making efforts to build a more effective modern military information dissemination system, and pooling powerful forces to modernize national defense and the armed forces.

A celebratory meeting dedicated to the publication's anniversary was held in Beijing on Wednesday. At the event, Xi Jinping's letter was read by Zhang Shengmin, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
