BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged New Year greetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
In his message, Xi Jinping, on behalf of the government and people of China, expressed sincere congratulations and best wishes to Vladimir Putin and the Russian people.
The Chinese President stated that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and China and Russia solemnly celebrated the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union, and the World Anti-Fascist War, sending a powerful signal that peace, justice, and the people will surely prevail.
Xi Jinping emphasized that 2025 will witness confident steps in developing China-Russia relations as a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era. This year, the two leaders met in both Beijing and Moscow, engaging in an in-depth exchange of views on important issues of mutual interest.
The Chinese President pointed to the successful implementation of the mutual visa-free policy between China and Russia, the stable creation of an energy corridor connecting them, and dynamic cooperation in new sectors.
Beijing and Moscow also support each other within the UN and other multilateral platforms, offering their ideas and investing their energy in reforming and improving global governance, he said.
Xi Jinping announced that 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Chinese-Russian strategic partnership and cooperation, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between China and Russia. He added that 2026-2027 will be the Cross Years of Education in the two countries.
