Almaty, December 30 (Xinhua) – China and the five Central Asian countries are natural members of the Global South and fellow travelers in the modernization process. They must further strengthen the alignment of their national development strategies, acting as a united front in the face of new challenges brought by the new era and the changing global situation. This was stated by Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Han Chunlin in an opinion piece.
According to Han Chunlin, China has provided development assistance to more than 160 countries and implemented over 1,100 projects, spurring the development and rise of countries in the Global South through concrete actions. China's engagement with all five Central Asian states is implemented within the framework of the "three-pronged" approach—a comprehensive strategic partnership, cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and building a community of shared future.
As the ambassador noted, against the backdrop of an increasingly complex international situation, effectively managing various risks and challenges, as well as ensuring overall stability in adjacent regions, is becoming particularly important and is becoming a key condition for building a community of shared destiny with neighboring countries. At the Second China-Central Asia Summit, the six countries reaffirmed their commitment to jointly combat the "three evil forces" (terrorism, extremism, separatism) and transnational organized crime, coordinate efforts to respond to security threats, and promote the early achievement of peace, stability, and the restoration of development in Afghanistan, thereby forming a regional security system based on peace, stability, and a shared destiny.
No matter how the international situation changes, China remains committed to sharing favorable development opportunities, Han Chunlin emphasized. Major high-quality Belt and Road projects, such as the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the China-Kazakhstan highway, and the China-Kazakhstan international logistics base in Lianyungang, are being successfully implemented and yielding tangible results in Central Asia. Cooperation through "small but high-quality" public welfare projects is taking on new forms of interaction and benefiting even more people in neighboring countries.
The diplomat emphasized that Kazakhstan is a good neighbor, reliable partner, and close friend for China. The two countries are linked by shared mountains and rivers, are closely interdependent, and represent an important link in building a community of shared future with neighboring countries. In recent years, under the personal strategic guidance of the two leaders, China-Kazakhstan relations have consistently risen to new, higher levels of development. China expresses its readiness to work with Kazakhstan to follow the diplomacy of heads of state, steadily strengthen political mutual trust, accelerate the alignment of development strategies, open new horizons for bilateral relations, and build a community of shared future in the region, Han Chunlin concluded.
