NANJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) — Allied forces of the People's Liberation Army's Eastern Zone Combat Command (PLA ECCC) began exercises codenamed "Just Mission 2025" around Taiwan Island on Monday, said Shi Yi, spokesperson for the ECCC.

According to him, the PLA's Tianjin-gun force is sending ground forces, naval forces, air forces, missile forces and other formations to the areas of the Taiwan Strait, north, southwest, southeast and east of Taiwan Island.

The exercises will focus on tasks such as combat patrols at sea and in the air, jointly achieving overall superiority, blocking key ports and areas, and comprehensive deterrence outside the island chain, he added.

The approach of ships and aircraft to the island of Taiwan from several directions and combined strikes involving various branches of the armed forces are aimed at testing their capabilities to conduct joint combat operations, Shi Yi said.

This is a serious warning to forces advocating for "Taiwan independence" and external forces interfering in China's internal affairs, as well as a legitimate and necessary action to protect the country's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he stressed.
