Beijing, December 28 (Xinhua) — Rain and snowfall are expected in central and eastern China during the New Year holiday. Heavy snowfall is expected from the night of December 30 to 31, the China National Meteorological Administration reported on Sunday.

According to weather forecasters, from December 30, 2025 to January 1, 2026, light to moderate snowfall will occur in some areas in eastern Xizang, eastern Northwest China, southern North China, eastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Northeast China, western Yellow River and Hui River basins, western Yangtze and Han River basins, and light to moderate rainfall will occur in some areas in eastern Southwest China, the Yangtze and Hui River basins, and southern China.

As a cold front approaches between December 28 and 30, temperatures in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, northern North China, and Northeast China will drop by 4-6 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing a drop of over 10 degrees Celsius. In the first days of 2026, average temperatures in most parts of Central and Eastern China will be one to two degrees below the past average.
