Moscow, December 27 (Xinhua) — The city of Kupyansk in Ukraine's Kharkiv region is under the control of units of the 6th Guards Combined Arms Army of the "West" group of forces. This was reported on Saturday by the Russian Defense Ministry, which released a video of soldiers describing the situation in the town.
"The city of Kupyansk is under the control of units of the 6th Guards Combined Arms Army of the West group of forces," the statement said.
As reported by the TASS news agency, citing a company commander of the 1843rd Motorized Rifle Regiment with the call sign Typhoon, servicemen from the Western Group are clearing basements in Kupyansk.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet officially commented on the situation.
On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced during the “Year in Review” that Kupyansk was under the control of the Russian Armed Forces and that 3,500 Ukrainian Armed Forces troops were surrounded near Kupyansk.
