BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) — Chinese lawmakers on Saturday voted to approve amendments to the Foreign Trade Law.
The revised law, which was adopted at a session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), will take effect on March 1, 2026.
The revised law includes provisions to protect national sovereignty, security and development interests, while emphasizing that foreign trade should serve the country's economic and social development.
In the context of implementing relevant reform measures, the revised law includes provisions on promoting China's efforts to align with high-standard international economic and trade rules and actively participate in the formulation of international economic and trade rules.
To further optimize the environment for the development of foreign trade, the revised law clarifies that China will strengthen the protection of intellectual property related to foreign trade and enhance the level of compliance of foreign trade participants with intellectual property law requirements and their ability to respond to intellectual property risks.
The revised law also enriches and improves the country's legal tools for combating foreign trade, and supplements and clarifies relevant countermeasures.
The Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China came into force in 1994 and was first revised in 2004. -0-
