URUMQI, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) — The 22.13-km-long Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, the world's longest expressway tunnel, officially opened to traffic on Friday.
A tunnel running through the central Tianshan Mountains in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) is reducing travel time in that section of the Tianshan Mountains from several hours to about 20 minutes.
Additionally, on this day, the Urumqi-Yuli Expressway G0711, of which the aforementioned tunnel is a part, was fully operational. This highway connects urban clusters in the north and south of Xinjiang. -0-
