BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) — China's Keji Ribao (science and technology daily) on Thursday published the country's top 10 science and technology news items in 2025, including the launch of the DeepSeek large language model, the experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), and a prototype superconducting quantum computer.

Among the top 10 news events are the DeepSeek model, which is attracting worldwide attention; China's EAST "artificial sun," which set a world record by lasting over 1,000 seconds at 100 million degrees Celsius; the successful creation of the Zuchongzhi 3.0 superconducting quantum computer prototype; and the first large-area 2D metallic material preform.

The selected events also included clinical trials of an invasive brain-computer interface; the discovery of the evolutionary history of the far side of the Moon; the identification of the process by which a single somatic cell transforms into a fully developed plant; and the development of a high-precision, scalable analog matrix computing chip.

Other events that made the top 10 included the emphasis on the leading role of scientific and technological innovation in the Proposals of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, as well as the commissioning of China's first aircraft carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults.
