The Active Citizen project summed up voting results, in which Muscovites identified the main dishes of the New Year's table. Over 199,000 people participated in the survey.
Despite the abundance of trendy recipes, city residents prefer traditional dishes served in modern formats. Olivier salad has emerged as the most beloved holiday treat. Herring under a fur coat came in second, followed by sandwiches with red caviar. These three dishes have symbolized the holiday for several generations of Russians.
Red caviar tartlets were the clear winner among cold appetizers. From December 25 to January 5, they will be available at fish markets. Moscow is on the wave In the Kosino-Ukhtomsky and Mitino districts, the main ingredient—pink salmon caviar—will be sold in various formats at a 15% discount. Additionally, on December 26, 27, and 28, starting at 2:00 PM, both markets will host a tasting of the winning appetizer. Spicy sprat sandwiches are in second place, and herring sandwiches on Borodinsky bread round out the top three.
The voting was prepared by the Active Citizen project in cooperation with the capital Department of Trade and Services.
Project Active Citizen has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined, and over 7,400 votes have been conducted. Between 30 and 40 decisions are implemented in the city every month. The project is being developed by the State Public Institution "New Management Technologies" and the Moscow Department of Information Technology.
