Pyongyang, December 25 (Xinhua) — North Korea test-fired a new type of long-range anti-aircraft missile in the Sea of Japan on Wednesday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Thursday.
The tests were observed by Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK, the statement said.
This is the first test launch conducted to evaluate the tactical and technical characteristics of the new anti-aircraft missile, the agency reported, adding that the launched missiles “accurately hit the simulated targets.”
The tests are part of the planned work of the DPRK's General Directorate of Rocket Production and its subordinate research institutes to develop air defense systems, aimed at the technical optimization of the country's air defense systems, KCNA reports. -0-
