As part of a series of international and national projects of the capital Department of Culture The exhibition "Terracotta Warriors: The Legacy of the First Emperor" will be held at the State Historical Museum (SHM). Following joint negotiations with representatives of China and the SHM, the Moscow Department of Culture will organize the transportation of the unique figurines and the exhibition at the SHM site in October 2026, together with specialists from China. The exhibition is dedicated to one of the greatest archaeological wonders of the world—the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
"Full-size terracotta warrior figures and authentic Qin-era artifacts will be on display in Moscow, and the exhibition itself will be the largest display of the terracotta army in the capital in nearly two decades and one of the main international museum projects of the coming year," noted the Moscow Government Minister and head of the Moscow Department of Culture.
Visitors will see life-size warrior figurines, weapons, ancient jewelry, and household items from the Qin and Han periods (3rd century BC – 3rd century AD). The exhibits will explore the history of the tomb's creation, its significance to global culture, and its historical, scientific, and artistic value. The exhibition will be accompanied by lectures, tours, and workshops on ancient Chinese history and art.
The Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang was discovered in 1974. In 1987, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is a grandiose funerary complex, comprising 8,000 warrior sculptures, 130 chariots, and 670 horses. The figures possess unique facial features, hairstyles, and armor details. According to legend, the Terracotta Army was intended to accompany the emperor in the afterlife.
The legendary warriors were first displayed at the State Historical Museum in 2008. Eighteen years later, they will be presented again in the capital.
