City services in the capital have been put on high alert due to worsening weather conditions. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Public Works. Petr Biryukov.
"According to weather forecasters, snow, heavy in places, and possible blizzards are expected in the capital region from December 25th to 29th. Precipitation will begin in the coming hours. Winds are expected to increase sharply on Friday, with gusts up to 17 meters per second. Therefore, city services have been placed on high alert. Emergency crews from engineering companies and administrative district prefectures are on duty around the clock," noted Pyotr Biryukov.
Municipal services are continuously monitoring the condition of the road network. As precipitation falls, they will conduct continuous mechanized sweeping of roadways, sidewalks, and courtyards, as prescribed, and, if necessary, de-icing. These operations will be repeated as the weather conditions change. Trucks will be on duty to assist truck drivers (primarily on the Moscow Ring Road and in the New Moscow).
Particular attention will be paid to cleaning pedestrian areas, sidewalks, approaches to public transport stops, metro stations and the Moscow Central Circle, railway stations and platforms, transport hubs, social facilities, and consumer markets.
Muscovites are urged to be extremely careful and cautious on sidewalks and roads, avoid parking under trees, and, if possible, postpone driving.
