Washington, December 25 (Xinhua) — The White House has ordered the U.S. military to focus almost exclusively on "quarantining" Venezuelan oil for at least the next two months, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing a U.S. official.
"While the option to use military force is still there, the focus is on applying economic pressure through sanctions to achieve the outcome the White House desires," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
"The measures taken so far have put enormous pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. There is a belief that Venezuela will face economic catastrophe by the end of January unless it agrees to make significant concessions to the US," the official added.
