Ankara/Tripoli, December 24 (Xinhua) — Libyan Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mohammed al-Haddad and four other officers were killed in a business jet crash south of Ankara on Tuesday evening.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said gendarmes discovered the wreckage of a Falcon 50 aircraft in the Haymana district of Ankara province.

Libyan Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dbeibah later confirmed the deaths of the military personnel, stating that M. al-Haddad and several high-ranking officers died in the plane crash. They were en route home after an official visit to Turkey. The government will investigate the "circumstances of the accident," the politician promised.

The aircraft, tail number 9H-DFJ, took off from Esenboga Airport in Tripoli at 8:10 PM local time. Contact with the jet was lost at 8:52 PM shortly after the crew issued an emergency landing notice near Haymana, according to A. Yerlikaya. –0–
