Mexico City, December 23 (Xinhua) — Five people were killed when a Mexican Navy plane crashed Monday near Galveston, off the coast of Texas, while carrying out a patient transfer mission, the Mexican Navy Ministry announced.

According to the agency, there were eight people on board, five of whom died and two were rescued. The search for one more is ongoing.

The statement said the plane was on a humanitarian mission and crashed while landing near the city of Galveston.

The ministry added that it would cooperate with the relevant agencies to investigate and determine the cause of the crash. –0–
