Washington, December 23 (Xinhua) — US President Donald Trump announced on Monday the construction of two new Trump-class battleships for the US Navy. He said these warships will be "the fastest, largest, and 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built."
At a press conference with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Navy Secretary John Phelan, Trump announced that he had approved a plan for the Navy to build two of the largest battleships ever built by the United States. Eight more will be built soon after, for a total of 20-25 battleships.
D. Trump stated that new warships with a displacement of 30-40 thousand tons will be equipped with hypersonic weapons, railguns, cruise missiles and laser weapons and will become the flagships of the US Navy.
