Beijing, December 23 (Xinhua) — Friendly ice hockey competitions between Chinese and Russian junior teams kicked off in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, the China Media Corporation reported on its official website.
The matches are taking place in the county-level city of Bei'an, administratively subordinate to the city of Heihe, which is separated from the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk only by the Heilongjiang (Amur) River. Nine teams, comprising more than 300 young hockey players from Blagoveshchensk and cities in Heilongjiang Province such as Harbin, Qiqihar, Heihe, and others, are participating in the sporting event.
The three-day tournament, which is part of the cultural events celebrating the upcoming New Year and Spring Festival in Bei'an City, features a total of 14 matches, including exhibition and competitive matches.
These competitions will undoubtedly provide a powerful impetus not only to deepening exchanges and cooperation between border cities in China and Russia, but also to promoting the high-quality development of the ice and snow economy in Heilongjiang Province, according to a statement from China Media Corporation.
