Kyiv, December 22 (Xinhua) — A working group is being formed in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU) to promptly examine the possibility of holding presidential elections during martial law. David Arakhamia, head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, announced this on Telegram on Monday.
According to him, the discussion will take place at the Verkhovna Rada's specialized committee on issues of state power organization, local self-government, regional development, and urban planning, with the participation of representatives from all parliamentary factions and groups, the Central Electoral Commission, and public organizations.
The next presidential elections were scheduled to take place in Ukraine in March 2024, but they were not held due to martial law in the country.
Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump said it was time for Ukraine to hold presidential elections.
