Beijing, December 18 (Xinhua) — On the sidelines of the 6th China-Russia Media Forum, representatives of Russian media outlets shared their views on the challenges and reforms of traditional media in the digital age.
"As we move toward a multipolar world, we will face attempts to distort reality and facts, and artificial intelligence can be a dangerous tool that will undermine audience trust in the media," noted Pyotr Fedorov, head of the VGTRK International Relations Directorate.
He added that such a danger must, of course, be countered by a fact-checking system that is efficient and fast.
“Our joint, shared, AI-powered fact-checking machine will be more effective than our machines currently operate separately,” he added.
According to him, artificial intelligence would make it possible to create aggregators for reviews of the most important analytical publications on life in China in various fields—art, science, education, industry—so that the Russian audience could become familiar with this deeper analysis on a daily basis.”
Dmitry Gornostaev, Deputy General Director of the international media group Rossiya Segodnya, in turn, stated: “Technology is a tool for making us faster, better, and more accurate, for developing in the new world, and for being a very competitive media outlet worldwide.”
Speaking about the standard quality and reliability of created content and the trust of the audience consuming it, D. Gornostaev noted: "In today's world, many media outlets, bloggers, and other media professionals sometimes sacrifice accuracy for the sake of speed, but this is the foundation of journalism, the foundation of a journalist's approach to their profession. Without accuracy, it is impossible to move forward; otherwise, we will go down the wrong path."
"The experience our countries are accumulating in bilateral cooperation is extremely important. This way, we can demonstrate that the world is multipolar and every voice can be heard, so we must help each other and other countries maintain information sovereignty and other traditional values," D. Gornostayev emphasized.
"We must do everything we can to strengthen accuracy and reliability, combat fakes, verify information, and never sacrifice accuracy for the sake of speed or a catchy headline," he concluded.
As a reminder, the 6th Russia-China Media Forum, held on December 16 in Beijing, was initiated by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, and organized by the Xinhua and TASS news agencies.
The event, entitled "Creating a New Future for Russian-Chinese Media Cooperation: Consensus and Action," was attended by approximately 140 representatives of relevant agencies and heads of media organizations from China and Russia. Eleven documents were signed during the event to deepen bilateral cooperation in the media sector.
