Phnom Penh, December 17 (Xinhua) — The Thai armed forces continue to carry out air and artillery strikes on Cambodian territory, and the death toll among Cambodian civilians has risen to 17, Deputy Secretary of State and spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Mali Socheata, announced on Wednesday.
She said that since Wednesday morning, Thai armed forces have attacked several positions in the Cambodian provinces of Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Pursat, using tank-mounted machine guns, drones, artillery and an F-16 fighter jet.
Mali Socheata noted that the total number of Cambodian civilians killed in the conflict has reached 17, while the number of wounded has risen to 77.
According to official figures, the conflict has also forced more than 130,000 Cambodian families, numbering approximately 438,000 people, to flee their homes in search of safe havens.
The border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand flared up again on December 7. Both sides blame the other for starting the fighting.
