Sydney, December 17 (Xinhua) — One of the men who carried out a shooting on Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday has been charged with 59 counts, Australian police announced on Wednesday.
On Wednesday afternoon, police in the Australian state of New South Wales charged 24-year-old Navid Akram with 59 counts of murder and committing a terrorist attack during a beach event celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
N. Akram remained in hospital under police guard on Wednesday after emerging from a coma on Tuesday.
The second suspected shooter, N. Akram's 50-year-old father Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police at the scene of the attack on Sunday evening.
