BRUSSELS, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) — The European Commission announced on Wednesday a 1 billion euro (1.17 billion U.S. dollars) allocation for joint defense projects as part of efforts to support innovation and capacity building in collective defense.

According to the statement, the investment is provided within the framework of the European Defence Fund's 2026 work programme and will finance 31 joint research and development projects in priority areas agreed upon by Member States. These projects cover key defence capabilities, future technologies, and defence innovation, while maintaining support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as mid-cap companies.

“We are turning common priorities into common opportunities,” said European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius. –0–
