URUMQI, December 17 (Xinhua) — The annual volume of automobile exports through the Karasu port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will reach 20,000 units for the first time in 2025, according to data from the local border control agency.
The Karasu checkpoint is the only land transport corridor on the border between China and Tajikistan through which commercial vehicle exports have been carried out since 2023. Currently, this checkpoint primarily handles Chinese-made vehicles such as electric vehicles, dump trucks, and engineering and construction equipment, which are then shipped to markets in Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and other countries.
Due to the steady growth in automobile exports, the Karasu checkpoint has implemented a number of measures to simplify procedures and expand throughput capacity, resulting in a reduction in customs and border control time for each export consignment by more than 50 percent.
