BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart Ivan Gil Pinto on Wednesday upon invitation.
During the conversation, I.H. Pinto informed Wang Yi of the current situation in Venezuela, emphasizing that the government and people of this country will firmly defend its sovereignty and independence, resolutely uphold its legitimate rights, and will not succumb to threats from any hegemonic forces.
As Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, pointed out, China and Venezuela are strategic partners, and mutual trust and support are the traditions of Chinese-Venezuelan relations.
China opposes all forms of unilateral bullying and supports the efforts of all countries to protect their sovereignty and national dignity, the Chinese diplomat added.
Wang Yi pointed out that Venezuela has the right to independently develop mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries, and expressed hope that the international community understands and supports Venezuela's position in protecting its legitimate rights and interests.
