BEIJING, December 16 (Xinhua) — China's machinery industry made significant progress in industrial scale, foreign trade, and innovation during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), according to data released Monday by the All-China Federation of Machinery Industry (ACMI).

The number of large enterprises in this sector increased from 92,000 at the end of 2020 to 137,000 as of the end of October 2025. In China, large enterprises are defined as those with annual revenue from core business activities of at least RMB 20 million.

Data showed that, in terms of sector scale, the average annual growth rate of value added has remained at 7.1 percent since 2021. From January to October of this year, total foreign trade in mechanical engineering products reached $1.03 trillion, up 7.6 percent from the previous year, with import and export volumes of related products for the entire year of 2025 estimated to reach a new all-time high.

In terms of industrial clusters, whose advantages are becoming increasingly visible, the country's mechanical engineering sector currently includes 13 companies that are among the world's 50 largest manufacturers of construction equipment.

Speaking about the next five-year plan, WFMI Chairman Xu Niansha said the industry will focus on strengthening the resilience and security of industrial and supply chains, accelerating the development of new-quality productive forces, while prioritizing intelligent, green, and integrated transformation. -0-
