Phnom Penh, December 16 (Xinhua) — The Thai armed forces continued shelling numerous populated areas in Cambodia from midnight Monday into Tuesday morning, Deputy Secretary of State and Cambodian Ministry of Defense Spokesperson Lieutenant General Mali Socheata said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
On the same day, Cambodia's Ministry of Interior announced in a press release that the death toll among civilians in the country had risen to 15.
“As of 7:00 a.m. on December 16, local time, the total number of civilians killed reached 15, and the number of wounded reached 76,” the statement said.
It also noted that the total number of displaced persons has increased to 126,508 families /422,698 people/.
The conflict on the Cambodia-Thailand border flared up again on December 7. Both sides accuse the other of initiating the attack.
