BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) — China congratulates José Antonio Casta on his election as the new president of Chile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.
According to media reports citing information from the Chilean electoral service on December 14, J. A. Cast won the second round of the presidential elections in Chile and became the country's new president.
Noting that Chile is the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, Guo Jiakun said at a regular departmental press conference that over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile, bilateral ties have continuously developed in a positive direction, yielding fruitful results in various areas of cooperation.
Guo Jiakun noted that China is willing to work with the new Chilean government to further strengthen mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation in all areas and advance the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides to a new level, so as to bring even greater benefits to the peoples of the two countries. -0-
