Beijing, December 15 (Xinhua) — China firmly opposes the appointment of Shigeru Iwasaki, former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, as a so-called "political adviser" to the Taiwan administration. China has repeatedly made serious representations to Japan in this regard and has taken retaliatory measures against Iwasaki, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated on Monday.

Noting that the Taiwan issue is at the core of China's interests and represents a red line that must not be crossed, Guo Jiakun said Shigeru Iwasaki is following the wrong path by colluding with separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence" and committing provocations.

The Chinese diplomat emphasized that Shigeru Iwasaki's actions constitute a serious violation of the one-China principle and the spirit of the Four Sino-Japanese Political Documents, as well as gross interference in China's internal affairs and an encroachment on the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In response to his malicious actions, China, in accordance with the PRC Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law, announced in a decree of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs retaliatory measures against Shigeru Iwasaki for his provocations and collusion with separatist forces seeking "Taiwan independence," the official spokesperson of the PRC Foreign Ministry added. -0-
