Abu Dhabi, December 13 (Xinhua) — At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited the UAE from December 12 to 13.

Wang Yi and Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held an in-depth exchange of views on the development of friendly relations between the two countries and their peoples, as well as on topics of mutual interest.

The parties noted that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the UAE has demonstrated positive development dynamics in all areas, which is in line with the shared expectations of the leaders and peoples of the two countries for development and prosperity.

The two countries' foreign ministers agreed to implement the important consensus reached during UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visit to China and his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in May 2024, and to work together to further enhance interstate relations in all areas, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

The Chinese side expressed its firm support for the UAE in protecting its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The UAE emphasized its firm commitment to the one-China principle, noting that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Emirati side also expressed firm support for the Chinese government's pursuit of national reunification and opposed external interference in China's internal affairs.

The Chinese side supported the UAE's efforts to peacefully resolve the issue of the three islands in the Persian Gulf – the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa islands – through bilateral negotiations in accordance with the UN Charter and other international law.

The Chinese side highly commended the UAE's achievements in various development areas and expressed its intention to continue to further integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with the UAE's vision "We are the UAE 2031" and the development strategy "10 principles for the next 50 years" to jointly advance the development of the two countries to a higher level.

The Emirati side highly appreciated the successful convening of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, noting that this event will give impetus to China's high-quality development and mutually beneficial cooperation of the international community.

The UAE welcomed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. China, in turn, invited the UAE to participate in cooperation within the framework of these four initiatives.

Both sides highly appreciated the positive results of interstate practical cooperation in various areas and agreed to strengthen cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, investment, oil and gas production, renewable energy, water resources, infrastructure, scientific research, military affairs, law enforcement and security, counter-terrorism and deradicalization, expand exchanges in the fields of Chinese language teaching, tourism and civil aviation, so as to continuously enrich the content of the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership.

The UAE expressed its support for China's hosting of the second China-Arab States Summit in 2026 and the simultaneous holding of the second China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, and expressed its readiness to work with China to ensure the success of these events. The Chinese side emphasized its expectation of working with the UAE to facilitate the early completion of negotiations on a free trade agreement between China and the GCC.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the principle of "two states for two peoples" and to the establishment, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, of an independent State of Palestine within the borders of 4 June 1967, enjoying full sovereignty and a viable existence, which will coexist peacefully and securely with Israel.

The two foreign ministers commended global efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and stressed that all parties must adhere to the ceasefire agreement to alleviate humanitarian suffering and create conditions for lasting peace.

The Chinese side expressed appreciation for the UAE's positive and influential role in regional affairs, while the UAE highly appreciated China's active efforts and important contributions to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East and the world at large.

The two sides agreed to strengthen communication and coordination across multilateral platforms such as the UN, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and work together to create a more prosperous and progressive world.
