A competitive selection process for the new creative project "Moscow Longevity" has begun in the capital. As part of the project, senior residents of the capital will learn to work in the traditional Russian technique of "sazhenie po beli." They will also participate in the creation of a large-scale installation that will be exhibited at the annual exhibition of contemporary Russian art "Svoyasi" in the spring of 2026.

The project will bring together talented citizens over 55 years of age, who will not only have the opportunity to showcase their skills but will also contribute to the preservation of craft traditions and Russian cultural heritage.

During the competitive selection process, 150 people are expected to attend a series of creative workshops from February to April 2026 and create elements of the future mural. It will be created using the ancient Russian technique of three-dimensional embroidery called "sazhenie po beli," which is over 600 years old. Twisted "bel" (linen cord) is sewn onto the fabric according to a specific pattern, and pearls, beads, and other embellishments are then "sazhenie" (sewn) onto it. This technique was used in Rus' to create royal clothing and jewelry. This traditional Russian technique will form the basis of a major collective work of contemporary folk art, which the participants of the "Moscow Longevity" project will collaborate on.

Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of their creative work. Experience in handicrafts, including embroidery, goldwork, patchwork, beadwork, and small decorative elements, is a key requirement. Creativity, proficiency in various arts and crafts techniques, developed fine motor skills, and a willingness to attend all five workshops will be assessed. The final list of participants will be determined by the Moscow Longevity project and Svoyasi exhibition team by December 25.

Following the selection process, groups of 10–15 people will be formed at 11 flagship Moscow Longevity Centers. All participants will have the opportunity to learn traditional embroidery skills and contribute to the creation of a unique art object. The installation will be the centerpiece of the 2026 "Svoyasi" exhibition and a significant cultural project combining history, craft, and contemporary art.

The "Svoyasi" exhibition has been held annually since 2023, attracting tens of thousands of visitors. Over the years, it has been held at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts and the State Historical Museum, presenting works by Russian artists and craftsmen inspired by folklore, folk ornamentation, traditions, and contemporary artistic practices.
