The first stage of the All-Russian School Olympiad has concluded in Moscow. This season, the number of applications for participation in technical and natural sciences competitions increased by almost 20 percent compared to 2024, exceeding 436,000. This was reported by the Moscow Olympiad's press service. Department of Education and Science.

"This season, over half a million young Muscovites participated in the first stage of the All-Russian School Olympiad. The students showed particular interest in biology, mathematics, and three computer science fields: robotics, information security, and artificial intelligence. Nearly 70,000 more applications were submitted for these areas than in the previous academic year. Moscow supports students' passion for the exact and natural sciences, as this will help them gain admission to the country's leading universities and subsequently build careers in the currently in-demand fields of IT and engineering," the department's press service reported.

For example, the number of participants in the Information Security Olympiad increased by more than 82 percent, reaching over 29,000. More students also competed in other disciplines: the Robotics Olympiad saw a 55 percent increase, while the Mathematics Olympiad grew by 11 percent. Furthermore, this season marked the first time that an Artificial Intelligence Olympiad was held, attracting nearly 19,000 participants.

Over 200,000 Moscow students in grades 7-11 won and placed second in the school round and advanced to the next, municipal round of the Olympiad. It will conclude on December 17. A regional round will then follow, with participants selected to join the Moscow team for the final round of the competition. Winners and runners-up of the final competition will be eligible to enroll in any Russian university in a program related to the Olympiad without entrance exams or to earn a perfect score on the Unified State Exam in the relevant subject.

Throughout the year, Moscow schoolchildren are offered classes with experienced coaches and teachers, as well as weekly seminars, off-site intensive courses, and online courses. This comprehensive approach enables students to successfully compete in intellectual competitions. For example, in the 2024/2025 academic year, Moscow teams won a record 1,863 winners and runners-up awards at the All-Russian School Olympiad. This is a 40 percent increase from the previous year.

Moreover, Moscow schoolchildren regularly demonstrated high results in international intellectual competitions. This year, according to Sergei Sobyanin, they won 28 medals, 22 of which were gold medals. Young Muscovites won 64 percent of the Russian team's awards.
