BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) — China's mobile phone shipments rose 8.7 percent year-on-year to 32.27 million units in October 2025, according to data released Wednesday by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
According to the organization, a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, 90.9 percent of October shipments were 5G-enabled smartphones, totaling 29.33 million units. This represents a year-on-year increase of 9.7 percent.
By the end of October this year, the number of 5G mobile phone users in China exceeded 1.18 billion, showing a net increase of 170 million compared to the end of 2024 and accounting for 64.7 percent of the total number of mobile phone users in the country.
According to the CICT, China has seen a significant increase in the number of 5G base stations since the beginning of 2025. As of the end of October, there were approximately 4.76 million, representing an increase of 507,000 compared to the end of last year, or 37 percent of the total number of mobile base stations nationwide.
According to the Chinese Telecommunications and Information Technology Authority (CTICA), China's telecommunications industry maintained stable growth from January to October 2025. The country's revenue from telecommunications services during this period exceeded 1.46 trillion yuan (approximately $206 billion), up 0.9 percent from the previous year.
