BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) — Beijing Aero Engine Services Ltd (BAESL), a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Air China, began operations in the Chinese capital on Wednesday.

BAESL is Rolls-Royce's first aircraft engine maintenance and repair (MRO) joint venture in mainland China and its fourth such venture worldwide.

At the commissioning ceremony, the North China Branch of the Civil Aviation Administration of China granted BAESL a maintenance license. Furthermore, the first engine sent in for repair by a customer was unveiled to the public.

On the same day, BAESL's main repair shop, with a total area of 59,000 square meters and equipped with the most advanced equipment, also opened.

Analysts say BAESL will fill the gap in mainland China's high-thrust engine repair capabilities and marks a major milestone in Sino-UK cooperation in high-end aircraft engine maintenance.

From 2026, BAESL will begin implementing the capability to repair engines of the Trent 700, Trent XWB-84 and Trent 1000 type, and by 2034 the company will be able to repair 250 aircraft engines per year, according to a press release on the official Rolls-Royce website. -0-
