BANGKOK, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Chanvirakoon said on Monday that the country will exercise its "legitimate right to self-defense" to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity in response to ongoing border clashes with Cambodia.
In a televised address following the release of the National Security Council resolution, he said military operations would be conducted in all cases in accordance with the situation on the ground, with caution and in compliance with the rules of engagement and humanitarian principles.
The government also ordered immediate support for civilians evacuated to temporary shelters, instructing all agencies to provide them with food, medical care, and essential supplies.
Violence escalated on the Thai-Cambodian border on Sunday. According to the Thai army, one Thai soldier has been killed and eight others have been wounded.
