NEW YORK, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States will allow Nvidia to supply H200 AI chips to "approved customers" in China and other countries, provided that 25 percent of the chip sales go to the U.S. government.
"These policies will support American jobs, strengthen American manufacturing, and benefit American taxpayers," Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Monday.
“The Commerce Department is finalizing the details, and the same approach will be applied to AMD, Intel, and other great American companies,” he noted.
"We applaud President Trump's decision to allow the American chip industry to compete to support high-paying jobs and manufacturing in America," an Nvidia spokesperson said Monday.
“Offering the H200 to approved commercial customers vetted by the Department of Commerce strikes a thoughtful balance that is a great fit for America,” the spokesperson said.
The H200 is a higher-end chip than the H20, but not the company's flagship product. Local media reported on Monday that both Nvidia and its rival AMD agreed in August to hand over 15 percent of their revenue from chip sales to China to the US government.
